Having often pondered how and why I see and file time in a spatial way – people’s ages, the months of the year – and my tendency to compartmentalize ordinary and ritualistic journeys into zones – of landmarks, sounds, smells – I took the prompt of Station as an opportunity to commit these mapping instincts to paper and to ask others to do the same. The results are broad, and often a bit nostalgic, but with a fair dose of legitimate synesthesia. Next steps for this research include bringing the activity into the classroom of my interdisciplinary sophomore studio as well as collecting enough diagrams to create an informal exhibit that invites contributions from guests.
