GHOST DRAWING-ASSIST TOOL TESTS at the Poor Farm Ghost Room

DesignInquiry’s international team of Ghost-Drawing-and-Writing Experts convened in June 2014 at the Poor Farm’s Ghost Room to review, refine and/or modify previous prototypes of ghost drawing-assist tools.

Invitations—to collaborate, participate and draw—were conveyed to the Poor Farm ghosts via Ghost-phone. For this round of tool tests, the Team integrated locally-acquired objects  and materials—as well as ordinary tools from the Poor Farm kitchen—into the mechanisms of the apparatuses. The Team tested the idea, that if the tool is somewhat familiar (from the resident ghost’s point of view), then the ghost-artist may be more accustomed and comfortable using that particular drawing-assist tool.

Local quarry rock, fishing hooks, and kitchen implements were integral to the construction of various prototypes of drawing-assist machines.

Team member Cooney lent her architectural expertise, assessing and documenting the Ghost Room’s elevation and floor plan.

Findings and reports from this and other rounds of ghost drawing tools and machines will be closely evaluated and incorporated into this ongoing project.

The Ghost Room at the Poor Farm is located on Vinalhaven Island, a brisk ferry-voyage from the mainland of Maine.
