Detroit / Food / Ephemera

FoodEphemera

Detroit / Food / Ephemera investigates food systems as a success/fail practice. The project expands upon an ongoing interest in food packaging, this time experimenting with issues of locality, ephemeral packaging, and how we [re]frame what we eat. It can expand to look at food security in a city, the rise and fall of food deserts and their stand-ins, and how the transport and distribution of food presents all sorts of opportunities and inquiries for designers.

I’ll work with students and other collaborators to collect food ephemera (paper-based food packaging) from Detroit. Once collected, we can meet together at MOCAD and install it in a unique arrangement in the space, sorting, drawing over, and contemplating the materials into a temporal representation of Detroit food culture.
